A step-by-step tutorial for beginner premade fan application, from mapping and isolation to pickup, glue control, placement, aftercare, and safety.

Premade fan basics

Premade or easy-fan volume lashes are pre-fanned bundles designed to save learning time and improve set consistency. For beginners, they make it possible to practice mapping, isolation, adhesive bead size, and placement without building every fan by hand.

Start light. A 2D to 4D fan in 0.03 to 0.07 mm is easier to control than a very dense fan, and it is usually safer for fine natural lashes.

Prep and environment

Clean, dry, oil-free lashes are the foundation of retention. Cleanse the lash line, rinse and dry thoroughly, then protect the lower lashes with pads or tape. Sanitize tools and keep disposables covered.

Adhesive behavior changes with temperature and humidity. Many artists work around moderate room temperature and mid-range humidity, but the final guide should always be the adhesive manufacturer instructions.

Application sequence

  • Map the design with the client looking straight ahead.
  • Isolate one natural lash cleanly before pickup.
  • Pick up the fan from the base without crushing the bouquet.
  • Dip for a small rounded adhesive bead.
  • Place 0.5-1.0 mm from the eyelid, never on the skin.
  • Hold briefly, check the bond, and separate stickies immediately.
  • Refresh the glue dot often so you are not placing with partially cured adhesive.

Fast fixes for beginner issues

If fans collapse, lift vertically from the strip and avoid dragging the base. If the outer corners droop, shorten the outer lengths or rebalance the map. If retention is poor, check prep, humidity, dot age, dip depth, and placement distance.

A simple first practice set might use 0.05 mm 3D C-curl fans in 9-11 mm across the midline, tapering shorter at the inner corners. This keeps weight modest while the artist builds control.

Aftercare and next steps

Clients should avoid rubbing, heavy steam, and oil around the eyes after application. Daily gentle cleansing and brushing help keep the set comfortable and clean. Fills every 2 to 3 weeks maintain fullness.

For salons, trainers, and private-label buyers, premade fan trays should be tested for pickup, base shape, curl consistency, and real retention before bulk ordering.
