What are premade fans?
Premade fans are ready-made clusters of lash extensions. Instead of creating a volume fan by hand during the appointment, the artist picks up a finished fan from the tray, dips the base in adhesive, and applies it to one isolated natural lash.
They are popular with beginners because they simplify the technical work. Experienced artists also use them when they need speed, consistency, and predictable symmetry.
Structure and design
A quality premade fan has a clean base, even spread, consistent curl, and lightweight fibers. Common options include 3D, 6D, 8D, 10D, and 12D fans with diameters such as 0.03, 0.05, and 0.07 mm.
The base should be slim enough to bond cleanly without adding bulk. The fan should open evenly so the finished set looks fluffy rather than clumpy.
Premade vs handmade fans
Handmade fans give the artist more customization and control. Premade fans are faster and more consistent, but less flexible for highly customized looks.
Modern premade fans are much lighter than older cluster-style products, but artist technique still matters. Poor isolation, too much adhesive, or oversized fans can still damage natural lashes.
How to apply premade fans
- Isolate one natural lash completely.
- Pick up the premade fan by the base without crushing the spread.
- Dip only the base into fresh adhesive.
- Place the fan flush with the natural lash, about 0.5-1.0 mm from the skin.
- Check for stickies and brush through during the set.
Pros and limitations
Premade fans save time, reduce hand strain, and make symmetrical volume easier for beginners. They are useful for busy salons and for artists who want predictable fan shape.
The limitation is customization. If a client wants a very specific wispy, wet-look, or texture-heavy design, handmade or easy-fanning techniques may give the artist more control.
