Lash Incoterms: 8 Shipping-Term Checks

By LASHMAITRE Team

LASHMAITRE lash Incoterms review with shipment responsibility carrier and destination records

Quick Answer

Lash Incoterms are Incoterms® rules written into an international lash sales contract to allocate selected delivery tasks, costs and risks between seller and buyer. A complete reference needs the three-letter rule, a precise named place or port and the version, for example “FCA [named place], Incoterms® 2020.”

Translate the agreed risk boundary into the lash cargo insurance checks for responsibility, insured value, route, exclusions and claim evidence.

Use eight checks before accepting a shipping term: transport mode, named place, delivery event, risk-transfer point, main carriage, insurance, export/import clearance and destination handling. Incoterms do not by themselves define product quality, payment timing, title transfer, remedies or the complete landed cost.

Translate the agreed shipping responsibility into a controlled set of lash customs documents covering invoice, packing, transport, origin and destination requirements.

Use the Rule with a Precise Named Place

The International Chamber of Commerce's Incoterms® 2020 overview states that the rules allocate costs, risks and obligations and provide guidance for selecting a rule. The U.S. International Trade Administration's Know Your Incoterms explains that there are 11 rules: seven for any mode of transport and four for sea or inland-waterway transport.

The three-letter code alone is incomplete. “FCA” without a named place does not tell the buyer where delivery and risk transfer occur. “DAP warehouse” is weaker than the full address or clearly defined facility point. Quote and purchase-order wording should use the exact place needed to allocate carrier handoff, unloading and customs tasks.

Incoterms are not a substitute for the sales contract. The contract should still define the approved lash product specification sheet, quantity, price, payment, inspection, delivery date, claims and remedies. Buyers should obtain legal, customs or freight advice for a specific transaction when necessary.

The 8 Lash Incoterms Checks

  1. Confirm the transport mode. Determine whether the shipment uses courier, air, road, rail, ocean container or multiple modes.
  2. Write the exact named place. Include the facility, terminal, port or address relevant to the selected rule.
  3. Identify delivery under the rule. Record the event at which the seller has delivered for Incoterms purposes.
  4. Locate risk transfer. Do not assume the party paying main freight retains risk until destination.
  5. Allocate main carriage. State who contracts and pays for the primary transport movement.
  6. Review insurance. Confirm whether the selected rule requires insurance and whether any additional cover is commercially needed.
  7. Separate export and import clearance. Record responsibility for declarations, licenses, duty, tax and broker instructions.
  8. Map destination tasks. Include terminal charges, unloading, appointment, final delivery and receiving responsibilities outside the headline freight quote.

Compare the Shipping Boundary

Buyer question FCA example DAP example Required evidence
Named point Seller facility or agreed carrier point Buyer destination Full named place
Main carriage Commonly buyer-arranged Seller-arranged to destination Carrier quotation
Risk transfer At agreed FCA delivery At destination before unloading Contract wording
Import clearance Buyer Buyer Broker confirmation
Unloading Depends on delivery point Buyer at destination Receiving plan

This simplified table is educational and does not reproduce the complete official rules. Consult the official ICC publication and qualified advisers for the transaction. The buyer should also compare the same shipment boundary when reviewing lash landed cost; a lower product price under one shipping term may shift freight, risk or destination cost to the buyer.

Worked Wholesale Lash Example

Assume a buyer needs 24 cartons of private-label lash trays delivered to a warehouse. Quote A states only “FCA China,” while Quote B states a DAP term with a complete warehouse address. The quotes cannot be compared until Quote A identifies the exact FCA place and both parties state what charges are included beyond that point.

The buyer builds two cost paths. For the FCA option, the buyer obtains carrier, insurance, import clearance, duty, tax and final-delivery inputs. For the DAP option, the buyer verifies what destination transport is included and confirms that import clearance, duty and tax remain allocated according to the written rule and contract. Neither option should be labeled “cheaper” from product price alone.

Add the selected term to the lash purchase order checklist and connect it to the planned lash supplier lead time. A destination-paid carriage commitment does not necessarily mean risk transfers at the same point as cost responsibility under every rule.

Connect Shipping Terms to Release and Receiving

Before dispatch, verify carton count and dimensions through the lash packing list checklist and lash carton marking checklist. The lash pre-shipment inspection should occur under the agreed release process, not be assumed from an Incoterms code.

Record the carrier handoff and shipment reference in lash extension batch traceability. At destination, use lash incoming inspection checklist evidence for quantity and condition. If damage occurs, preserve the packaging, carrier and risk-transfer records needed to identify the responsible claim path.

Finally, align the commercial invoice and payment schedule with lash supplier payment terms. Incoterms allocate selected delivery obligations; they do not automatically determine when the deposit or balance becomes due.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are lash Incoterms?

Lash Incoterms are official ICC trade rules incorporated into a lash sales contract to allocate selected delivery tasks, costs and risks between buyer and seller. Use the three-letter rule, precise named place or port and version. The sales contract must still define product, price, payment and remedies.

Which Incoterms rule is best for wholesale lashes?

No single rule is best for every order. The decision depends on transport mode, buyer logistics capability, destination, customs arrangements, insurance needs, cost visibility and the parties' agreement. Compare the responsibility boundary and total cost instead of choosing the code that appears most convenient.

Does DDP always include every cost for the buyer?

Do not assume so from the code alone. Review the official rule, named place, quotation exclusions, import requirements, taxes, destination charges and local compliance. DDP can also be impractical where the seller cannot legally or operationally complete import obligations in the destination country.

Is FOB suitable for air or courier lash shipments?

FOB is one of the rules intended for sea or inland-waterway transport. For air, courier or multimodal shipments, review the rules available for any mode and select the term that matches the actual delivery and carrier handoff process.

Do Incoterms determine who owns the lashes?

Incoterms address selected delivery obligations, costs and risk; they do not by themselves determine transfer of ownership or title. The sales contract and applicable law should address title, payment, nonconformity, delay and remedies.

Should the named place appear on the purchase order?

Yes. The quotation, purchase order and contract should use consistent wording: the exact rule, named place or port and version. An omitted or vague place can make delivery, risk and cost boundaries difficult to interpret.
